Senior Center News – Thanks given for support during festival (May 20, 2015 issue)

The senior center would like to thank everyone who supported us during the Strawberry Festival.
We would not have been successful without all of the volunteers who donated their time to prepare and serve the desserts as well as assist us in setting up and breaking down our booth and much, much more. It is reassuring to know that the community is so supportive of the senior center and acknowledges its need and value to the older adults of Unicoi County.
Please join us on Thursday, May 21, at 10 a.m. for a presentation by Ryan Ramsey, First Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability, to discuss “Medicare’s Preventive Health Benefits.” He will highlight the screenings that you can have without any out of pocket expense. At the conclusion of his presentation, he will also be happy to address any Medicare related questions.
We are also pleased to announce that on Friday, May 22, at 9 a.m. that we will be visiting the Unicoi Farmers’ Market to aid older adults in having access to fresh fruits and vegetables, while supporting the local farmers as well.
Also, please be advised that we will be closed on Monday, May 25, to observe Memorial Day. When we return on Tuesday, May 26, we hope that you will join us for a presentation by Dr. Richard Yoon, MSHA, to discuss “Peripherial Arterial Disease” at 9:30 a.m., as eight million Americans are affected by this disease, which can result in amputations, stroke and other conditions.
For additional information on these opportunities, please visit the senior center at 220 Union Street, Erwin or call 743-5111 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
