Senior Center News – Talk to focus on whether property taxes can be lowered (Feb. 18, 2015 issue)

Join us on Thursday, Feb. 19, as we welcome Paul Berry, Unicoi County’s Trustee, at 10 a.m. to discuss a governmental tax program that could lower your property taxes. Note that this governmental assistance program requires participants to meet financial guidelines to be eligible so please attend and find out whether you or someone you know might qualify.
Since Monday, Feb. 16, was President’s Day, we would like to invite you to attend the Presidential and First Ladies’ Trivia Time, which is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. These fun and thought provoking questions will not only educate you on our current and prior presidents and first ladies but bring back memories of historical significance.
With February being designated as American Heart Month, we are continuing to offer programs focused on the heart. On Tuesday, Feb. 24, Dr. Dan Merrick, Mountain State Health Alliance, will conduct a presentation at 10 a.m. on “Happy, Healthy Heart”. He will present information on not only heart health but also address medications and disease processes as well as several tests and cardiovascular procedures that are utilized for heart health.
We are pleased to announce that the senior center will be offering a free diabetes workshop called “Taking Charge of Your Diabetes” through a partnership with the Unicoi County Health Department’s Health Educator Ashley Davies and the First Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability Center. The workshop will be offered in six sessions on Wednesdays, beginning March 4 at 9:30 a.m. Please call the senior center at 743-5111 to find out more or to pre-register for this evidence based health promotion program, which was developed by Stanford University.
