Senior Center News – Programs to focus on healthy heart (Feb. 11, 2015 issue)

With February being designated as American Heart Month, we will be offering various programs focused on the heart to help you stay healthy.
On Thursday, Feb. 12, Chasity Harness, Mountain State Health Alliance, will conduct a presentation at 10 a.m. on “Preventing Heart Disease” as well as entertaining questions about your concerns.
Beginner’s quilting is still available on Fridays at 9:30 a.m. Don’t miss out on this special opportunity to learn the basics of quilting while enjoying the fellowship of others. Note that all supplies are provided and your contribution will assist the senior center in having a work of art that can be sold to assist with its operating expenses.
Don’t forget that you can join us on Friday, Feb. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. for a pool fundraiser. Each player (senior center member or non-member) will donate $5 for an evening of pool. We have two billiard tables to be utilized during this fundraiser so we hope that you will come out and enjoy the game and fellowship this evening event will offer.
Note that the senior center will be closed on Monday, Feb. 16, to observe President’s Day.
We will return on Tuesday, Feb. 17, with a “Healthy Heart” presentation at 9:30 a.m., which will be conducted by Erin Neuberger, Walgreens Pharmacy. This presentation will share information on keeping your heart healthy, while addressing how blood pressure issues as well as cholesterol affects your heart health.
Due to such demand, we are continuing to offer free tablet tutorials. Therefore, please contact the senior center to find out how you can reserve an appointment for a one-on-one session on Wednesdays. Note that you are not limited to only one appointment, assuming that we are able to meet the demand for training requests. Also if you want to learn but do not own a tablet, no problem. The instructor will provide one for you.
For additional information relative to these events or to inquire about older adult (50 years and older) options, call the senior center at 743-5111 or visit us at 220 Union St., between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
