Library Happenings – Several holiday events planned for youth (Dec. 16, 2015 issue)

The countdown to Christmas and a new year is underway, and excitement is building, especially for little ones! Our Wednesday story times will celebrate the season for the remainder of this month. The kids will make Christmas cards and holiday decorations on December 16. They will enjoy cookies and hot chocolate as they watch a movie based on a beloved children’s Christmas book on December 23. And they will bid farewell to 2015 at their own “New Year’s Eve-Eve” party on December 30.
Why not make a New Year’s resolution to join Miss Cindy and Miss Katrina for Story Time every Wednesday afternoon from 2 to 3 p.m.? At a typical Story Time, your child can expect to enjoy a story or two, a craft project and some light refreshments. In order for us to ensure we have sufficient quantities of craft supplies and refreshments on hand, we ask that you call the library at 743-6533 to register your youngster for each event at least 48 hours in advance. We don’t want any child to be disappointed. We appreciate your help and hope to see you soon!
Holiday Party
Our annual children’s Christmas party will be held on Friday, Dec. 18, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The plan calls for craft projects and other fun activities, yummy refreshments and a very special guest who will fly in from the North. If you would like to participate, please let us know you’re coming right away!
New Movies!
The orders that we have compiled and placed have finally borne fruit. New DVDs are on the shelves, children’s books are being cataloged and an order for audiobooks is in the pipeline. Large-print books will be our next focus. As always, if there are any library materials you would like to see in our collection, please let us know. We will do our best to get what you want to read, watch and listen to!
Spotlight Book
Dean Koontz wrapped up his “Odd Thomas” series last January and now he is bookending 2015 with a new novel, “Ashley Bell.” Promising novelist Bibi Blair receives a devastating diagnosis: A rare brain tumor, with few treatment options, will claim her life within months. Bibi is desperately ill, but she is determined to fight the disease. Then, suddenly, there is no longer any trace of cancer. While her doctors are unable to explain the miraculous cure, a mysterious woman tells Bibi that she was spared for a purpose: to save Ashley Bell. Bibi embraces the mission, but who is Ashley, and where can she be found?
