If your November calendar is anything like ours, it’s filling up fast. Our weekly children’s programs will be held at their usual times except for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, but Lego Club and American Girl Club will be shifting around a bit. Lego Club will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, while American Girl Club has moved to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29. American Girl Club participants will be sewing and decorating Christmas stockings for their dolls while they enjoy hot chocolate and sugar cookies.
It sounds tempting enough to make me wish I were quite a few decades younger, but I will be busy on Nov. 29, offering a basic computer class for beginners during those same hours. We also have scheduled a genealogy workshop at the library for 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17. The teen Thanksgiving celebration is slated for 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18. If any of these programs appeal to you, be sure to call the library to register, since space is limited and reservations are required.
You may, however, just drop in any time we’re open to color a bookmark. A variety of autumn-themed designs are currently available, and winter motifs will be put out after Thanksgiving. Coloring is a wonderful way to relieve the stress of the holidays. Be sure to bring the entire family for a little coloring “therapy.” Convenient calendars showing programs for children and teens that have been scheduled during November can be picked up at the circulation desk. Up-to-date information is also available on the Unicoi County Public Library Kids and Teens Facebook page.
This is the time of year when we order large–print books, audiobooks and all kinds of materials for children and teens, so please let us know if you have special requests.
The board of trustees of the Unicoi County Public Library will meet in the library lobby at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10. The public is welcome to attend. If you require special accommodations, please call the library at 743-6533 for assistance.
The library will be closed in honor of Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 11, but we will be open our regular hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12. No items will be due on Friday, but if you’re anxious to return your books, our two drop boxes are always available. One is located at the library in Erwin and the other at Town Hall in Unicoi.
