All things come together in time

God’s timing is certainly different
than our timing. I was reminded
of that so much this past
year as I served on Erwin Presbyterian
Church’s Pastor Nominating
Committee or PNC. I was
honored when asked to join
church members Betty Stevens,
Richard Booth, Clay Hepburn,
Hitomi Lewis, Valerya Hyrne
and the late Julian King, with the
task of fi nding and presenting
our next pastor to the congregation.
Our PNC met more than 50
times, studied more than 150
Pastor Information Forms or resumes,
and offered innumerable
prayers during our 16month
journey.
It still amazes me how things
line up when God is in the mix.
Our PNC group continually encouraged
each other as we met
and deliberated. We listened to
numerous sermons from numerous
ministers and waited on God
to direct us to the right one.
At one point we were reminded
by the head of our Presbytery
that “God must have someone
very special in mind for Erwin
Presbyterian Church.” We had
gone down paths which seemed
hopeful, only to fi nd that this
person or that person didn’t
seem like the right fit.
