Unicoi County Republican Party to host public election forum on April 5

As voters get ready to head to the polls for the upcoming primary election, the Unicoi County Republican Party is announcing plans to host a public forum for the candidates seeking office.

 “This is open to all candidates,” said Unicoi County Republican Party Chairwoman Renea Jones. 

Candidates for Unicoi County Register of Deeds, Unicoi County Clerk and Unicoi County Sheriff are confirmed and scheduled to appear at the 2022 Unicoi County Republican Party Candidate Forum at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5. The forum will be held at Erwin Town Hall.

The forum will provide an opportunity for the public to hear from candidates before the May 3 primary. 

Members of the public can also query candidates.

“This is open to the public and guests can submit questions that will be read by the moderator,” Jones explained.

She also confirmed that Jim Buchanan has agreed to moderate the April 5 event. 

“Jim has done a great job moderating and we are happy to have him moderating this event,” Jones said.

Any candidates interested in participating in the 2022 Unicoi County Republican Party Candidate Forum can notify moderator Jim Buchanan by calling (423) 341-4417 by April 1 to indicate that they would like to participate.

Members of the public planning to attend the April 5 forum are encouraged to arrive at Erwin Town Hall before 6 p.m. 

The Unicoi County local primary election will be held Tuesday, May 3. Early voting will be conducted April 13-28.

The 2022 election cycle will also include a  county general election and state and federal primary on Thursday, Aug. 4. Early voting for th county general and federal/state primary election will be held July 15-30.

The state and federal general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8. Early voting will be held Oct. 19-Nov. 3 for the final election of the 2022 election cycle. Municipal elections for the Town of Erwin and Town of Unicoi will also be held Nov. 8.
