An anchor store in downtown Erwin is preparing for a special milestone.

Keesecker Appliance, Furniture and Flooring, located at 115 N. Main Ave., is turning 80 this month.

“This is Keesecker’s 80th anniversary, and this is my tenth year anniversary as owner,” said Ben McNabb. “We are running some specials and customer appreciation days this week in celebration of our 80th.”

Keesecker began as a purveyor of all the appliances that can make modern life run smoother.

“It all started as a small appliance store,” McNabb said. “It grew into a large appliance and furniture store. They expanded into bedding and lawn and garden years ago.”

McNabb added a new element to the store.

“My background was product management and marketing in the flooring industry,” McNabb said. “When I moved back to Unicoi County from Dalton, Georgia, I began doing flooring. When I moved back I noticed that the lawn and garden side was doing as well so I focused on flooring and furniture and bedding.”

McNabb said that some high-performing brands such as La-Z-Boy and Kingsdown are popular with his customers.

Flooring has also become a popular commodity for Keesecker’s over the past decade.

“I’d say 60 percent of our business is flooring,” McNabb said. “We do hardwood, tile, carpet, kitchen remodeling and bath remodeling. This business has changed in the past 10 years, and you change with the times. We have grown, and it’s been a blessing.”

McNabb is constantly updating Keesecker’s offerings.

“Flooring is still a service-driven industry,” he said. “Most people don’t install their own flooring. We have crews that are running all the time. We offer the latest in flooring trends and furniture options. We are a one-stop remodeling stop. I have experience in matching colors to flooring from my time in Dalton, so we can match any flooring to the rest of someone’s decor. We also offer the newest flooring trends including water proof and dog proof composite.”

McNabb explained that he is laying the foundation for the next 80 years.

“We provide a wide selection of American made goods,” McNabb said. “It’s important for us to have customers in this region and will continue to do what we can to keep them satisfied.”
