The Unicoi County High School junior varsity Blue Devils knew how to go out with style.
Coach Michael Smiths team ended their season with win number 11, a victory over the Cloudland Highlanders, 58-48, at the Devils Den in Erwin on Monday, Feb. 13.
I couldn't have asked for better effort, coach Smith said. We came out of the gates, worked hard on defense and rebounding, limiting them to one shot. We did a good job of executing on offense and we had shots go for us. It was raining three-pointers for the Devils in the first half as the squad knocked down seven three-pointers to aid in the winning effort. Nic Chambers led the offensive efforts during the night with 19 points, while Austin Green followed behind his sophomore teammate with 11 points.
It was a season of growth and experience. This team really worked hard all year, Smith added.
They really hit a good stride right at Christmas, then had a rough stretch, but really battled and got back on a roll again late in the year.
