The Unicoi County volleyball team dropped three matches last week against stiff competition.
South Greene defeated the Blue Devils 3-0 on Monday, Sept. 14. Unicoi also suffered sweeps against Three Rivers Conference powerhouses Sullivan Central on Tuesday and Sullivan South on Thursday.
“We played three tough teams last week,” Unicoi County coach Shelley Swinehart said. “Sullivan South and Sullivan Central are competing for first place in the district.”
The Blue Devils Shelby Miller had 17 kills, seven digs and three aces against South Greene. Bella Davis added six digs.
Miller was also productive against Central, tallying 10 digs, nine kills and three blocks. Bayleigh Hyder had seven blocks in the loss to Central, and Swinehart commended the blocking of Hyder and Miller.
Savannah Sparks chipped in with four kills.
Miller had nine blocks and Hyder tallied five blocks against Sullivan South.
“It was some of our best blocking this year,” Swinehart said.
Miller also had 13 kills and nine digs and Sparks finished with seven digs, five kills and two aces. Sydney Compton delivered two aces as well.
Unicoi was scheduled to play KACHEA on Tuesday, Sept. 22, Elizabethon on Thursday, Sept. 24, and Johnson County on Monday, Sept. 28. All three matches are at home and the Longhorns will visit for Senior Night.
