UCHS football team honors players

Multiple Blue Devils were honored with the Region 1-3A awards following the conclusion of the 2015 football season.
The Unicoi County High School football team was represented with senior quarterback Hunter Hensley earning all-academics honors in the Mountain Eight Conference. Hensley was also named to the all-region team, along with Cameron Higgins, Colt Brewer, Jacob Smith, Nick Fender and Warren Shelton.
Five Blue Devils also received honorable mention honors. They were Brandon Caldwell, Eduardo Martinez, Eli Gillis, John Burnett and Will Collins.
The Blue Devil football team held their annual after-season banquet at the high school cafeteria on Sunday, Nov. 23, hosted by the Blue Devil Gridiron Club. The event featured a special barbecue dinner and the program recognized the cheerleaders, managers, water girls and players of the team.
Shelton received the F.H. Penland Award, which is presented by the program each year. Hensley earned the team most valuable player award, which is voted on by the team.
Fender was recognized with the running back award. Collins earned the offensive lineman award. Wide receiver Michael Howell earned the wideout award.
Brewer took home the top linebacker honor. Caldwell and Smith earned the team defensive back and defensive lineman awards.
Randall Blangin and Dayton Clark were honored with special teams awards. Scott Owens earned the scout team award.
