UCHS Basketball Preview – Coach: Team should have 'exciting season'
Youthful players with a high ceiling have the Blue Devil junior varsity basketball season looking to be an exciting one, according to coach Ben Evely.
We have a good mix, Evely said. We have kids that played some last year on the junior varsity team and new guys. Weve got some young guys were really excited about for our program and were excited about the things we can do this season.
The Blue Devils may have tournaments ahead this season, according to Evely.
At this time, we havent heard, he said. We normally play in the Christmas tournament so that could happen, but well have to play it by ear.
A transitional period at the varsity level spills down to the underclassmen.
Weve got a good freshmen class, Evely said. We have a few that we are excited about and some sophomores that didnt play much through junior varsity last year because of the amount of guys we had at the varsity level. We have a good mix and we should be pretty good this year.
Evely inherits a freshmen core that came away with a sectional tournament berth last season at the middle school level.
Coach Drew Rice will assist at the junior varsity level.
The team opened its season on Nov. 18 against Madison County.
The junior varsity Blue Devils are scheduled to face David Crockett at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21.
