Unicoi County was well represented during the recent TSSAA state cross country meet.
According to UCHS cross country coach Thad Higgins, junior Lady Devil Megan Todd placed 31st out of a field on 181 runners at the meet held in Nashville on Nov. 5.
“Megan ran an exceptional race,” Higgins said. “She ran her fastest 5K time of the season, coming in at 21:06.”
Todd’s finish was a mark of the consistency shown during her career at UCHS.
“I was certainly proud of Megan throughout this entire season,” Higgins said. “She consistently pushed herself in practice as well as races to be the best she could be.”
Todd also showed grit near the end of the season, her head coach said.
“I was especially impressed with Megan throughout the last few weeks of practice because she was battling minor injuries in addition to training for the state race,” Higgins said. “I’m very excited to see what Megan will be able to do in the future. We really learned a lot from this season’s training and the obstacles that it presented and I look forward to making some improvements to our practices. I’m looking forward as well to this upcoming track season where she will get the opportunity to compete on the track, as well as to grow stronger for next year’s cross country season.”
