Tankersley, True lead way for Devils in regional

The final meet of the year for the UCHS cross country squads was quick to show to the Devil fans that the program will be in good hands for the years to come.
UCHS traveled to Daniel Boone last Thursday to participate in regional A-AA cross-country action during a chilly Thursday morning in Gray.West Greene, Chuckey-Doak and South Greene were three teams among a strong field of high schools running during the meet with experienced student athletes as part of their teams.
The “youngins” from coach Gary Howard’s cross country teams were led by Nolan Tankersley, who placed 12th among all boy competitors during the day with the time of 18:57.
Tankersley was one of a few of Blue Devils that have been with the cross country program for multiple years and was quickly followed by Taylor LeFever with the time of 19:40.
The rest of the boys’ team were all within mere seconds of one another with Jeremiah Powers being the next Devil to cross the finish line with a 20:28 time.
Christobal Razo, Austin Hendrickson, Ryan Waldop and Austin Garrabrant also competed last week and finished with times of, in order, 20:44, 20:50, 20:53 and 22:12.
The Lady Devils were once again led by sophomore Whitley True, who finished 19th with a time of 23:43.
Allison Tuttle, who is one of four freshman on the team, wrapped up her first year under coach Howard by clocking in with 25:49, which ends a successful first year campaign for one of the youngest Devils on the team.
Junior, Haley Adkins, finished her first year in cross country with a time of 26:13.
With Hannah Fender out due to injury, the Harris girls would wrap up the five-girl squad running with Kamille finishing with 28:22 and Hannah having a time of 28:23.
The regional meet ended the 2011 season for UCHS, but excitement is building for what is to come for coach Howard’s squads in the 2012 cross country season.
