Tankersley chosen to ride for USA in upcoming race

A trip to Arizona earned a local cyclist national recognition when all was said and done.
Nolan Tankersley, a Unicoi County High School graduate and Milligan College-signee for the Buffalo cycling program, scored a spot on the United States cycling team for the upcoming Tour de l'Abitibi Desjardins to be held in Canada in the month of July.
Twenty-four teams from across the world will take part in the event, which is regarded as the Tour de France for 17-18 year olds.
“It’s crazy looking back on everything,” Tankersley said during a phone interview with The Erwin Record Sunday afternoon. “I was about to take up kayaking before cycling came to me. Everything worked out for a reason and it’s an honor to be able to wear the ‘USA’ across my chest for a race.”
The growth of the sport was always in the forefront of Tankersley’s mind and the opportunity to represent the nation in a tour of this magnitude will help continue the upswing of cycling.
