Season ends for Jr. Blue Devils

A road trip to Vance Middle School ended the regular season for the Jr. Blue Devil football team last week.
Unicoi County Middle School kept things close through halftime, trailing 27-20, but were unable to close the gap to fall, 49-20, on Monday, Sept. 29.
“It was the best half of football we played all year,” Blue Devil coach Jason Hensley said. “I couldn't be more proud of this group of kids. They worked hard all season long. We were young, but I see a lot of talented players that can make noise for the high school in the coming years.”
Quarterback Brett Strother combined for near 300 yards of offense for UCMS, including 207 yards and two scores and added 92 yards and a touchdown on the ground against Vance.
Blue Devil wideouts Austin O'Dell and Kody Lewis each showed their big play ability with a 71- and 65-yard score, respectively, from the air attack.
Easton Edwards, Michael Harrington, Ike Edwards and John Sullins were a handful of players Hensley mentioned who had good games on the defensive side of the ball.
“It is hard to really single anybody out,” he added. “Every kid that was part of this team got better since the day they started. I'm proud of this team and appreciate the community and coaching staff for their support during the season.”
