And then there were two.

Of the five all-star teams representing Unicoi County Little League this summer, three have been eliminated from tournament play. Left standing are the 10-12 year-old baseball and softball teams.

The 10-12 year-old Blue Devils opened their postseason on Monday, July 10, against Johnson City Major at Daniel Boone Little League in Gray. Coached by Paul Green, the team earned a 13-8 victory to advance in the tournament.

With the win, the Blue Devils moved on to face Daniel Boone on Tuesday, after The Erwin Record’s press deadline. Win or lose on Tuesday, the team will play on Wednesday, July 12.

The 6-8 year-old baseball team was eliminated from their District 5 tournament with an 11-3 loss to Jonesborough in the District 5 tournament on Thursday, July 6.

This team opened zone 1 play on July 2 in Erwin with an 8-5 win over Johnson City Major. On Monday, July 3, the team lost to Jonesborough, 14-11, sending the Blue Devils to the losers’ bracket of zone play and advancing Jonesborough to the District 5 tournament.

On July 4, the Blue Devils defeated Johnson City Major again, this time by the score of 9-8, to advance to the district tournament. In their first district game, the Blue Devils defeated Daniel Boone, 14-13, on July 5, setting up a rematch with Jonesborough the following day.

Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, this game went the same as the previous one as Jonesborough bested Unicoi County, 11-3. The loss eliminated the Blue Devils from postseason play.

Johnson City American later defeated Jonesborough to win the tournament and advance to state.
