Off the Field – Where was the excitement? (Nov. 26, 2014 issue)

It was a lackluster performance from the Blue Nation during the home stretch of Unicoi County High School basketball games last week.
The Blue Devils and Lady Devils kept busy with games against Madison County and David Crockett and brought some excitement on the court.
But where was it in the stands?
High schools across the state would give an arm and a leg to have a set of bleachers right in the corner of the gym, behind the backboard, where a student section can create the atmosphere that can make teams hate the fact they have to travel there.
UCHS will have a week away from their home court with Thanksgiving tournaments at David Crockett and Oliver Springs.
Fans, get the paint, get the signs, get the masks – whatever you need to do to bring the excitement.
Not often you get a chance to lose your voice to support two varsity teams that can make some noise down the stretch Make some memories. Have fun with it.

Aspirations are running high at King University for the men’s basketball program this season. Leading the charge for the Tornado is Logan Lyle – a former Unicoi County High School Blue Devil and the current record-holder for scoring.
Lyle, who is a senior this season, aided the Tornado in their 82-62 home victory against North Greeneville to open up Conference Carolinas play with a win and moved their overall record to 2-1.
The former Blue Devil, along with former Science Hill standout C.J. Good, hauled in 15 points in the rout. Lyle also added six boards (five defensive) and dished out five assists.
King was back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 25 after The Erwin Record’s press deadline with league play in Misenheimer, N.C., against Pfeiffer College.
News from former UCHS athletes in the collegiate ranks will be featured in future issues of The Erwin Record.
