Off the Field – Time for playoff talk (Oct. 28, 2015 issue)

Postseason time is almost upon northeast Tennessee.
With excitement starting to fill the air, Blue Nation saw their Unicoi County High School Blue Devil football team secure a bid to the upcoming Class 3A playoffs by defeating Northview Academy, 42-28, last week in Kodak.
Trying to decipher through the TSSAA playoff procedures can be tricky at times, but here’s a chance to get a bit of information as we prepare for the final week of the regular season.
Featured here is a look at the Mountain Eight Conference and how things could pan out for Class 3A Region 1 and 2.
Class 3A Region 1
Elizabethton clinched the Mountain Eight Conference title and earned the top seed in the region by defeating Chuckey-Doak.
Pigeon Forge will squeeze into the number two spot after surviving Johnson County’s upset bid. The third and fourth spots will be decided Friday, Oct. 30, in Mountain City with the Blue Devils taking on the Longhorns.
Northview Academy is on the outside looking in at the fifth spot. The Cougars could make things interesting by defeating Elizabethton this Friday. A Cougar win and a Johnson County loss will give Northview a playoff berth.
Class 3A Region 2
A league championship will be on the line Thursday, Oct. 29, as Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK) and Alcoa battle it out on the gridiron. The winner will fall into the top seed of Region 2, while the loser will fall to second seed.
CAK enters the game undefeated at 9-0, while Alcoa sits with an 8-1 record. Alcoa’s only defeat was a 20-14 loss to Maryville.
Kingston Academy has locked up the third seed for the playoffs at 7-2 overall and a 2-2 mark in the league with their only losses to CAK and Alcoa.
Scott County (4-5, 1-3) and McMinn Central (2-7, 1-3) will play Friday to decide the final spot out of Region 2.
