Off the Field – It just comes naturally (March 18, 2015 issue)

Unicoi County High School in the spring is like a duck to water – it just comes naturally.
We made it one week in the spring sports season. Just one week and already saw postseason atmosphere-like events take place.
Whether it was a go-ahead RBI single by Hunter Higgins to give the Blue Devils a victory or clutch home runs from Cierra Jackson, first place finishes from CJ Wells and Stephanie Wisse and tennis players emerging victorious … it just comes with the territory.
The season is in its early stages, but as March goes on, be sure to check each Wednesday issue of The Erwin Record for updates on your favorite team from the community.

The throws of D.W. Whitson, Jerry Rice-like grabs from Coty VanHoy and even a pancake from Trevor Berry – there’s too many highlights to compile an ESPN Top 10 list made up of former UCHS standouts.
Later this month, Unicoi County will have a chance to see their former players back at Gentry Stadium.
The Erwin Knights, a semi-professional football team, will play its season opening game on Saturday, March 28, against the Southwest Legends to kick off the season.
This will be the Knight’s first year in the World Class Football League.
