Off the Field – Cardinals announce special event (April 29, 2015 issue)

The Johnson City Cardinals announced last week they will host Jurassic World night on Saturday, June 27, in the wake of the upcoming Jurassic World movie set to hit theaters on June 12.
“We are thrilled to announce this awesome promotion and feature one of the wildest jerseys in Minor League Baseball history,” said Tyler Parsons, Johnson City General Manager, in a news release. “We can’t thank Universal Studios enough for working with us to make this possible, and we are thrilled to partner with a franchise that has people’s imagination for years. This will be a special night for our fans, and we can’t wait to see everyone out at Cardinal Park.”
Multiple events will go on during the evening. Dinosaurs will be featured throughout the park along with a dinosaur egg hunt for children and a fossil hunt after that game in the infield with a grand prize awarded to the winner. Also, the first 3,000 fans will receive a special Jurassic World poster.
The Cardinals are also partnering with Gray Fossil Site and Museum to present fossil displays, exhibits and games for all ages with paleontologists on hand to offer opinions and answer questions.
Following the game, the dinosaur jerseys will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to Gray Fossil Site and Museum.
“As huge fans of the Jurassic Park franchise, we are elated to be included in Jurassic World Night,” said Dr. Blaine Schubert, museum director. “We are so appreciative to be recipients of the jersey auction proceeds, and we plan on keeping true to the theme by using it for fossil-related educational programming.”
Opening night for the home stretch of the season begins Thursday, June 25, for the Cardinals against the Kingsport Mets.
