Off the Field – Homecoming time in UC (Oct. 8, 2014 issue)

Blue Nation knows how to ring in a celebration.
It is homecoming week for Unicoi County High School. The culmination of the week will be the Three Rivers Conference tilt between UCHS and Johnson County on Friday, Oct. 10, at Gentry Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
Best of luck to the teams competing, as well as the ladies vying for the homecoming crown.

In announcement from UCHS athletic director Michael Smith last week, the Blue Devils' football game against Sullivan Central, previously scheduled for Halloween, is now set to be played on Thursday, Oct. 30. Senior night will also be held prior to kickoff.

It will be a monumental occasion for UCHS athletics next week when the Blue Devil and Lady Blue Devils take part in the first swim meet of the 2014-2015 season on Oct. 14 at Tennessee High.
After being decommissioned in the 1980s, a swim team has reemerged at the high school due to increased interest in the sport, head coach Jonathan Kenney said in a recent interview with The Erwin Record.

UCHS cross country results from their recent meet will be featured in the Oct. 15 issue of The Erwin Record.

UCHS football junior varsity will look to get some reps in to end the season by playing three or four games during the next month, head coach Glenn White said Saturday.

A new tradition looks to be underway for the Apple Festival fans.
A challenge has been sent out to Happy Valley alumni, according to Alumni Football USA state director Jarrod Hargrave.
The second annual Apple Festival Bowl is already in the works with Unicoi County looking to take on former gridiron stars from Warrior Hill in 2015.
