Lady Devils wrap up regular season

Momentum in the Three Rivers Conference is on the side of the Lady Blue Devils heading into postseason play.
Unicoi County High School (15-13, TRC 8-4) will head into the District 1-AA tournament this week as the third seed.
The team capped off the regular season on Monday, Feb. 9, on the road in non-conference action against Hampton.
Hampton was able to score the win, 73-42.
Hannah Rice led the Lady Blue Devils with 14 points, while Halie Padgett tossed in nine points.
The Lady Bulldogs netted four in double figures, led by Alexis Bowers with 21 points.

There was a shared-wealth of scoring for UCHS during senior night on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Morgan Lee Brown and H. Padgett finished with 11 points each and led the Lady Blue Devils toward a 68-28 triumph over Johnson County.
Harness also went into double figures with 10 points and seven boards. Over 10 players from UCHS scored during the rout.
The night was important, according to Emily Lynch, who shared her final regular season home contest with her four senior counterparts and underclassmen teammates.
“We’ve played together for four years,” Lynch explained. “We’ve grown to love each other and enjoy each others’ company. It has been great to have all this time with the girls; it’s been very special to me.”
Coach Kerri King was quick to sing the praises of her senior class.
“There’s so many of them,” she said. “They’ve always dictated the personality of the team. They have been a hard-working and very sincere group and they’re a genuine group. It is a third of our program gone next year, so we’ll take a hit on trying to create a new identity for the season.”
But the job isn’t over this year, King added, with UCHS feeling well heading into the postseason.
“We didn’t want to slip up. We wanted to finish up the conference stretch strong,” she said. “I thought we performed very well with all the senior night stuff going on.”
