Lady Devil junior Destinie Hayes had the
killer instinct last week.
The middle hitter finished with a game
high 15 kills Thursday night as the Unicoi
County High School volleyball team scored
its first conference victory against Johnson
County, (22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21).
The see-saw battle saw multiple lead
changes throughout each set. Johnson County
rallied from a 21-19 deficit in the first set
to nab the 25-22 victory. The next two sets
would go the same as the first ,but some extra
velocity on the ball from Hayes help garnered
some motivation for the Lady Devils.
It was really important to come out tonight
and set the tone, Lady Devil head
coach Junia Gindlesperger said. The girls
really fed off the energy from some of the
kills Destinie had.
The win was a good confidence booster
going into the latter part of the season, according
to Hayes, who also tallied in five
blocks on the night..
It was a big win, she said. Its a big confidence
booster for us.”
