The Unicoi County High School volleyball teams ended last week with a clean sweep of Johnson County on Thursday, Sept. 22.
The Lady Devil freshmen team won the first match of the day in straight sets (25-4, 25-22).
“In the first game, Kaitlin Bailey served 23 straight service points,” head coach LeAnn Lane told The Erwin Record. “Twelve of those were aces.”
With the victory, the freshmen squad moved its Three Rivers Conference record to 7-2 and 8-4 overall.
The junior varsity team also defeated Johnson County in straight sets (25-10, 25-18) last week.
“Kaitlin Bailey led with 7 kills, Brooklyn Jones and Sarah Grace Larkey added 6 kills apiece,” Lane said. “Blake Hall dished out 17 assists.”
The victory moved the junior varsity squad’s record to 9-2 in conference play and 16-6 overall.
The varsity Lady Devils completed the sweep of the Lady Longhorns with a straight-set victory (25-18, 25-15, 25-19) of their own.
“Brooklyn Jones led with 8 of the team’s total aces,” Lane said. “Senior Keelie Hall added 7 kills and 10 digs, while Katelyn Bennett contributed 6 kills of her own.”
The varsity squad is now 4-8 in conference and 8-16 overall this season.
Prior to the varsity match, the Lady Devils honored their five seniors – Keelie Hall, Savannah Lafever, Jessica McConnell, Stephanie Wisse and Taylor Sailors.

Playing on the road on Tuesday, Sept. 20, the freshmen and junior varsity teams earned victories over conference foe Elizabethton.
Both Lady Devil squads won in straight sets. The freshmen won a close match with set scores of 25-22 and 26-24. The junior varsity won with set scores of 25-18 and 25-14.
The varsity Lady Devils fell in three straight sets to the Lady Cyclones (12-25, 16-25, 22-25).

The Lady Devils traveled to David Crockett for non-conference matches on Monday, Sept. 26, and to Sullivan South for conference matches on Tuesday, Sept. 27, after The Erwin Record’s press deadline.
The junior varsity team will play in the conference tournament at South beginning Thursday, Sept. 29.
The varsity team’s conference tournament begins Monday, Oct. 3, at Sullivan East.
