Lady Devils lose four straight

It was a rough week at the office for the Lady Blue Devils.
The Unicoi County High School girls’ basketball (2-4) dropped four consecutive games during Thanksgiving tournament time. The team capped off last week with a loss to Morristown East in the fifth-place game of the annual Triten Insurance Girls Thanksgiving Basketball Classic at Sullivan East High School on Saturday, Nov. 28..
Daniel Boone took home top honors in the contest with an overtime victory over Tennessee High in the nightcap on Saturday.

Lady Blue Devil Ashley Edwards scored in double figures with 13 points on Friday, Nov. 27, but it would not be enough in a 58-32 defeat to Hampton in the Lady Devils’ third game of the tournament.
UCHS kept things interesting in the early going, staying within striking distance – trailing 15-10 at the end of the first period.
The Lady Bulldogs capitalized in the second quarter, outscoring UCHS 14-6 to move their advantage to 29-16 at halftime.
Head coach Kerri King saw her players go on the attack in the third quarter, cutting the deficit within nine points, 35-26, by limiting Hampton to just six points. The offense got rolling thanks to 3-pointers from Kenedy King and Hannah Rice, and a pair of buckets from Edwards.
Hampton did the damage in the final period of playing, scoring 23 points on the Lady Blue Devils to come away with the victory.
King tallied in nine points for UCHS. Rice scored 6; Neelee Griffith scored four.
Ashlie Padgett and freshman Kaylee Hendrickson played hard-fought minutes for the team.

The Lady Blue Devils were handed a tough opponent on Wednesday, Nov. 25, with Daniel Boone. The Lady Trailblazers took the contest by a 61-28 margin.
UCHS opened tournament action on Tuesday, Nov. 24, with a 55-31 loss to Tennessee High. Hendrickson led the team in double figures with 11 points.

The ladies got back on the court on Tuesday, Dec. 1, after The Erwin Record’s press deadline with a contest against the Science Hill Lady Hilltoppers.
Three Rivers Conference action awaits the squad on Friday, Dec. 4, as UCHS hosts Sullivan South.
The Lady Blue Devils open next week with a trip to Roan Mountain on Tuesday, Dec. 8, in non-conference action against Cloudland.
Junior varsity action opens the slate of games each night at 3:30 p.m. while varsity will follow at 6:30 p.m.
