The Unicoi County High School volleyball team added a win – and a loss – to its league record last week.

“We have been plagued with injuries this season,” head coach Shelley Swinehart told The Erwin Record. “It seems every match we play someone has gotten hurt. Right now our focus going forward is to get healthy and stay healthy.”

Playing at home on Tuesday, Sept. 10, the Lady Devils (6-4, 3-4) lost to Sullivan South in three sets (17-25, 23-25, 7-25). Two days later, the Lady Devils defeated Chuckey-Doak in Erwin in three sets (25-12, 25-20, 25-13).

“Our second half of conference play started last Thursday with Chuckey-Doak, so we are also focused on getting some wins against teams we played tough in the first half of the season,” Swinehart said. “The girls continue to work hard and play tough every match. They are resilient and strong. Our seniors continue to show leadership on the court and our sophomores and freshman continue to play strong despite their youth and always facing more experienced players.”
