With the postseason on the horizon, head coach Jonathan Kenney saw his Blue Devil netters earn an important conference win against their Bluff City rivals.

The Unicoi County High School tennis teams split boys’ and girls’ contests with Sullivan on Wednesday, April 20, at Fishery Park, to cap off a three-match week. The Blue Devils earned a 7-2 team victory, while the Lady Devils relied on the racquet of Carson Moore to prevent a sweep in their 8-1 loss.

Blue Devils Carter Powers and Christian Leon saw some resistance on the individual side, but were able to rally for 8-6 victories. Dalton Spears won from the No. 1 seed with an 8-4 victory. Trent Treadway joined his senior teammate with an 8-4 triumph, while Sam Murillo won for UCHS in dominant fashion with an 8-1 victory. Sullivan East squeezed by with an individual win with an 8-4 score during a valiant effort by Chase Erwin.

The doubles team of Powers/Treadway provided some firepower for UCHS, winning 8-1. Murillo/Spears provided high-octane action for fans in attendance during their 8-6 victory.

Coach Karla Keesecker saw Moore provide late theatrics on the far courts at Fishery in her 9-7 victory to lead the Lady Devils.

Hannah McKinney and Winter Day-Honeycutt were able to make things interesting in their singles matches, but fell 8-4 and 8-2. Arianna Edwards dropped her contest, 8-1, while Abby Hensley and Aurora Whitson each fell 8-0.

Ali Giovannelli and Taylor Thomas lost in their doubles match, 8-2, as Sullivan East took the sweep in doubles. Edwards/McKinney and Whitson/Honeycutt lost their matches 8-3 and 8-0, respectively.
