Junior varsity Lady Devils win big last week
Make it eight straight.
The Unicoi County High School junior varsity Lady Devils (11-4) (3-0) brought home two more wins last week, highlighted by a 47-20 win over Happy Valleys junior varsity Lady Warriors on Friday.
We have had a good stretch as of late, coach Keeli Parkey said after the game. It should give us confidence which will be important going forward. For the most part we have played well.
Haley Webb rallied the efforts for the junior varsity squad, leading the scoring with a 11-point game against Happy Valley. Tiffany Laughren followed closely behind with eight points along with Chelsey Harness, who rounded out the top scorers with six points.
The Lady Devils claimed a 37-25 victory over Unaka on Monday, Jan. 2, at UCHS despite struggling at time offensively during the game.
We didnt shoot the ball well, Parkey said. When a team plays zone like Unaka did, you really need to make shots.
While struggling offensively, the Lady Devil defense played well against Unaka.
I thought our defensive effort was very good, Parkey said. It is great to see that our girls didnt let offense dictate their defense.
The junior varsity squad will get a breather this week, only playing on Tuesday, Jan. 10, against Hamptons junior varsity Lady Bulldogs.
Tip-off for the Lady Devils on Tuesday is set for 3:30 p.m.
