Junior varsity defeats Dugger, Church Hill

The youth led the charge for the Unicoi County Middle School volleyball program. The junior varsity racked up two wins last week. Their varsity counterparts were defeated in their two matches last week.
On Tuesday, Sept. 4, the UCMS junior varsity won in two sets over T.A. Dugger’s Lady Cyclones (25-18, 25-17). Kenedy King led the way with eight aces and two kills.
The varsity team lost to T.A. Dugger in two sets (25-14, 25-17).
On Thursday, Sept. 6, the junior varsity defeated the Lady Panthers of Church Hill. The Lady Devils secured the win in three sets.
King led the squad with 10 aces, while Brooklyn Jones pitched in eight of her own. Halie Padgett and Rachel Lynch each accounted for five kills.
The varsity Lady Devils put up a fight, but Church Hill managed to hang on for the victory. The Lady Panthers took the first set (25-17). In the second set, the Lady Devils rallied from a nine-point deficit spearheaded by Brenna Jones’ serving to win the second set (26-24). The Lady Panthers won the third and deciding set (15-9)
The Lady Devils had 10 kills with Savannah Lefever and Keelie Hall leading the team.
UCMS opened their week on play on Monday, Sept. 10, after The Erwin Record’s press deadline against Ross Robinson.
Coach Stephanie Linville’s crew will be in action tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 11) against Vance Middle School at UCMS. They will also host Sevier Middle School on Thursday.
The UCMS varsity squad will also be in action on Saturday, Sept. 15, in an all-day tournament at East Tennessee State University.
