The Unicoi County High School junior varsity Lady Devils had the chance to be the belles of the ball Friday night.
The Lady Devils (11-7, 3-1) picked up a win during Friday's slate of action against Sullivan North High School in easy fashion. The Lady Golden Raiders forfeited their Three Rivers Conference varsity schedule earlier this season and will not be participating in the District 1-A tournament to be held at the end of the season at Elizabethton High School.
While the varsity team had a breather, the junior varsity Lady Devils took to the court in prime time to face the Lady Golden Raider underclassmen and did not disappoint with a 50-27 win.
The junior varsity game took on the same atmosphere as a regular varsity game and the Lady Devils were up to the challenge, according to coach Alisha Mainer.
“I thought they did well,” she added. “I would've like to of seen a little more energy early, but they got after them.”
UCHS held Sullivan North scoreless for the first four minutes of the game and jumped out to an early 15-4 lead after the end of the first quarter. The weather was clear outside but the Lady Devils were able to make it rain from behind the arc, drilling four three-pointers, two from Morgan Lee Brown and two from Hannah Rice in the early going.
