Jr. Lady Devils win in double OT

Head coach Alisha Mainer’s Jr. Lady Blue Devils brought the excitement on Tuesday, Dec. 9, against Vance Middle School.
The Unicoi County Middle School girls’ basketball team needed a pair of extra periods to play in to score a thrilling 47-41 win in double overtime in Erwin.
Guard Kaylee Hendrickson went the distance in the game, dropping a game-high 18 points Chloe Powers scored 12.
Controlling the paint, Allee Griffith and Nickolette Ferguson combined for 17 points – with Griffith going for nine and Ferguson adding eight.
On Thursday, Dec. 11, the Jr. Lady Devils fell victim to a 53-20 road loss.
Sydney Rogers brought in nine points in the game while Kaitlin Bailey tacked on six. Powers added three and Griffith scored two points.
The busy week was key, according to Mainer, as UCMS took part
The Jr. Lady Devils participated in pool play in the annual Trailblazer Classic held at Daniel Boone High School after The Erwin Record’s press deadline. Their results in pool play will determine where they will fall during tournament action.
