Jr. Lady Devils prep for new year

Unicoi County Middle School’s girls basketball players will have a breather heading into the new year.
The Jr. Lady Blue Devils will join their counterparts from the boys basketball program with a break heading into 2015 after competing in the Trailblazer Classic held last week.
“Hopefully we will come back into this break stronger than when we went into it,” head coach Alisha Mainer said. “We are a strong team. We just need to get stronger and more focused each night.”
UCMS is led by a variety of sharpshooters at the guard spot, with Kaylee Hendrickson, Chloe Powers and Sydney Rogers.
Allee Griffith adds a nice shot to go along with her ability to rebound. The Jr. Lady Blue Devils also have youth to go with talent inside with Kaitlin Bailey, Ashtan Vance and Nickolette Ferguson, who play on both the varsity and junior varsity teams.
Taylor Thomas and Jenna Wilcox have also added a threat from the outside.
UCMS is back in action Jan. 6 with a road contest against the Lady Greene Devils of Greeneville and will follow up on Jan. 8 with a home stand against Ross Robinson.
Junior varsity action opens play a 5 p.m. each night with varsity action to follow.
