By Keeli Parkey

The Unicoi County Middle School Jr. Lady Devil varsity squad has posted a 3-1 record in the first weeks of the 2016-17.

They opened the season with a victory over University High and earned their second win on a forfeit by that same opponent.

The Jr. Lady Devil varsity squad defeated Greeneville Middle School 40-30 on Thursday, Nov. 3, at UCMS.

“Julie Hensley had 16 and was huge inside,” head coach Lauren Trivette told The Erwin Record. “She played great defense and got some huge rebounds. Caroline Podvin had 11 points. Everybody played hard and showed intensity.”

The varsity team’s only loss this season came at the hands of John Sevier Middle School on Nov. 1.

The junior varsity squad is 0-2 so far this season. They also lost to Sevier on Nov. 1 and were defeated by Greeneville 40-23 last week.

“Jocelyn Metcalf had 14 points and played a great game,” Trivette said. “She shot well, rebounded well, handled pressure and was intense on defense. Laurel Osborne played with intensity and fought hard the whole game.”

The Jr. Lady Devils are scheduled to host Vance Middle School on Thursday, Nov. 10. The junior varsity team is scheduled to take the court at 5 p.m., with the varsity team to follow.

They are scheduled to travel to Ross Robinson in Kingsport on Monday, Nov. 14, for games at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. They will take part in in-school games at T.A. Dugger Middle School on Tuesday, Nov. 15, with the varsity playing at 2:15 p.m. and the junior varsity team playing at 4:45 p.m.

They will have a chance to avenge the earlier losses to Sevier on Nov. 21 at UCMS. The junior varsity team is scheduled to take the floor first at 4:30 p.m.
