Jr. Blue Devils defeat Greeneville

The Unicoi County Middle School Jr. Blue Devil basketball team made steps in the right direction, according to head coach Ken Hilliard after a pair of conference games scheduled last week.
UCMS dropped a three-point decision to Vance on Tuesday, 37-34, but responded back in a big way on Thursday, earning a 47-37 win against John Sevier in Erwin.
Both teams were in a tie for second place inside the conference, with Greeneville currently holding the top spot.
“We’re beginning to figure out who we are,” Hilliard said. “We’re starting to play better.”
Brett Strother leads the charge from the guard spot.
Danny Lowery, Gavin Casey, Austin O’Dell and Drew Keasling have brought key moments during the stretch, as has Ty Thelen, brother of senior Blue Devil, Zach.
The UCMS boys joined their girls during the pool play portion for the Trailblazer Classic during the weekend. Information on the Jr. Blue Devils scheduled for the tournament portion of the event will be posted online.
