League play is heating up in the Three Rivers Conference baseball race and the Blue Devils are in the chase.
Unicoi County (15-2, TRC 9-1) wrapped up the week behind a shutout pitching performance from senior Jonathan Davis in a non-conference victory over Loudon, 4-0, in a road contest on Saturday, April 13. Davis struck out 11 batters on the mound. Austin Green drove in three RBIs to lead the offense for the Blue Devils.
Conference action stole the show to start off the week with the Blue Devils dropping a close affair to Elizabethton, 2-0, on Monday, April 8, in Erwin.
Davis pitched a complete game in the contest, going the distance with seven strikeouts, but a pair of miscues ultimately led to the Devils first conference loss of the season.
I thought Jonathan pitched good enough for us to win, UCHS skipper Charlie Baxter said. Youve got to give it to Elizabethton, they did the things they needed to do to put runs on the board and we never adjusted. Baseball is a game of adjustments and we just got outplayed.
Michael Kiernan led the Blue Devils at the plate with his 2-3 performance.
Tuesday, April 9, would be the day of redemption for the squad.
Coming off their previous encounter from the prior week ago, the Blue Devils used a key pitching performance from Connor Simpson to chalk up a 7-3 win on the road at Warrior Hill.
