Camp for EJAA players, cheerleaders set
The Erwin Junior Athletic Association will hold annual football and cheerleading clinics on Saturday, June 27, at the Unicoi County High School track.
The camp is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children ages five to 12. The event is free to participants.
David Bell, with the EJAA, said in a recent interview that Derek Fudge, former all-conference linebacker during his playing days at East Tennessee State University will be on hand to assist with camp activities.
Bell, who also played at ETSU, said there is a potential of other Buccaneer alumni being on hand to offer instruction during the camp.
The EJAA camp will take place before the UCHS football camp, which is scheduled to be held on July 18 at Gentry Stadium.
Were going to have signups (for the season) during the camp on Saturday, Bell said. There will be physicals at Dr. Fernandos office behind the hospital on July 18. Those will be $10 then we start practice on July 20.
The cost of registering for the upcoming 2015 EJAA season is $45 for football players and cheerleaders. That includes a jersey with a childs name on the back. Cheerleaders will also receive a set of warm ups with their registration.
Families with multiple children will receive a $5 deduction from the $45 for each additional child that registers.
The season is right around the bend as the little Blue Devils have already found out when their unofficial season-opener takes place.
Weve got our jamboree scheduled for Aug. 15, Bell said. We dont have the location set up as of right now. We were scheduled to host, but well have to see what the league says.
