Bill Burton, Jr., age 65, of Nebo, NC passed away peacefully Saturday, April 23, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born January 4, 1957, in Russell County, VA to Patsy “Pat” Daugherty Burton of Erwin, TN and to the late Bill Burton, Sr.  

Bill retired from CSX Railroad after over 30 years of service.  Hobbies, skills and achievements include spelunking, hang gliding, scuba diving, boating/sailing/kayaking, gem and gold mining, Meteorite enthusiast. Fishing (fresh and salt) worm Wrangler, water and snow skiing. Hiking, Tennessee Vols support professional,  sharp shooting, Cycling to beach (twice) cycling to Mitchell 3 times, and generally anything involving (cycle) knife throwing, kung fu fighting (to music) hang gliding, Snake wrangling gardening, trapping, maple syrup farming, Bee keeping, farming, fishing, logging, roofing, pole-vaulting, Free cell master, Pool technician, Master pole climber, carpentry, aquaponics, syrup farming, stilt walking, potato gunsmithing, amateur astronomy, rock tumbling, ghost hunter/regular hunter.

And his favorite hobbies skills and achievements of all are being a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and to anyone who knew him outside those realms, a friend.

In addition to his mother, those left behind to cherish Bill’s memory are his beloved wife of 46 years, Jennie Engle Burton; three sons, Brian Burton and wife, Christina of Asheville, NC, Jerad Burton and wife, Crystal of Nebo, NC, and Phil Burton of Nebo, NC; five precious grandchildren, Nicholas, Mallory, Liam, Jonas, and Reece; two brothers, Bob Burton and wife, Jo of Erwin, TN and Rick Burton and wife, Sandy of Johnson City, TN; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion, NC.  A funeral service to celebrate Bill’s life will follow at 6:00 pm at the funeral home with Bill’s brother, Rick Burton, officiating.  Interment will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Wilson Ballew Cemetery.
