William Grant “Bill” Masters

William Grant “Bill” Masters, age 87, 1515 Zane Whitson Drive, Erwin, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 22, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Erwin, a son of the late Stuart and Ethel Webb Masters. Mr. Masters was a graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and was a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Erwin for several years. He was a well known businessman in Erwin having been the owner and operator of Home Furniture and Appliance Company for 56 years. Mr. Masters was a proud veteran of World War II serving in the United States Air Force.
He was a longtime faithful member of Erwin Presbyterian Church serving as Deacon for several years.

Other than parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Masters and a sister, O'Neil Bennett.

Mr. Masters is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Marjorie Hawkins Masters; three sons: James G. Masters and wife, Sandra, Augusta, Georgia, Kent Masters and Dean W. Masters, both of the home; one brother, Michael Masters; two sisters: Delores Allen and Joan Biggerstaff and husband, George, all of Erwin. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral service for Mr. Masters will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2013, from the Erwin Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Dr. Stanley Webster will officiate. Special music will be provided by Betty Stevens and Inez Chandler. Active pallbearers will be chosen from the men of Erwin Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive friends prior to the service between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the family home.

Entombment will follow the visitation and funeral service in Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Erwin Presbyterian Church, 105 North Elm Avenue, Erwin, Tennessee 37650.
