The Rev. William B. McNabb, age 90, Unicoi, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at the Lake Bridge Healthcare Center surrounded by his family. Born on Dec. 29, 1921, he was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Frank and Sabie Campbell McNabb.
Mr. McNabb proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving at the Barnes General Hospital in Vancouver, Wash. He also served in England, France and Belgium with the 76th General Hospital, and served as a front line medic in Germany from March to June, 1945. Mr. McNabb was awarded four major battle stars, good conduct medal and combat medic badge.
He retired from the former North American Rayon in Elizabethton after 35 years service. He was an ordained minister and did supply work in several area churches. He was a member of Mableton Freewill Baptist Church, and a Farm Bureau director.
Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by Dave and Julie McNabb and a sister, Georgia Jewell.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years: Pansy Marie Tipton McNabb; sons: the Rev. Harold McNabb and wife, Ruth, of Unicoi; Gary McNabb and wife, Mary Lynn, of Unicoi; daughters: Joan Clark and husband, Harlan, of Unicoi, Brenda Barnett of Unicoi, Deborah Miles and husband, Terry, of Greeneville; half sister: Goldie Parson; grandchildren: Tony Clark and wife Janice, Angel Dixon, Mark McNabb, Shawn McNabb and wife Julia, Rebecca Jenkins and husband Nathan, Rachel Hull and husband Andy, Derek Hess and wife Lori, Eric Bradford, Sarah Barnett, Lisa McNabb Jones and husband Steve, Charles “Chuck” and wife Haley, Benjamin McNabb and wife Candice, Aminda and Matthew Miles; great-grandchildren: Tyler and Brandon Dixon, Emmett McNabb, Eli and Savannah Jenkins, Benjamin and Alexandra Hull, Seth and Michaela Jones, Joy Anna, Zack, Caleb, Colby McNabb, Madelyn and Lydia McNabb.
Funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m., in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Broyles and the Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff officiating.
A graveside committal service, with the Rev. Sam Ferguson officiating, will be held in the McInturff Cemetery, Mableton Community, Unicoi, on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m. Military graveside honors will be rendered by the Unicoi County High School Air Force Jr. ROTC.
