Wayne Curtis Bennett
Wayne Curtis Bennett, age 73, of Erwin, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Unicoi County and the son of the late Curtis and Georgia Bailey Bennett.
Mr. Bennett worked with the Clinchfield Railroad as a crane operator until his retirement. He was a member of the Church of Christ and served in the Army Reserves.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Bennett.
Survivors include his wife: Shirley Hampton Bennett of Erwin; daughters: Debra Baker and fiancé David Cutshall of Greeneville, Donna Kay Burton of Erwin, Dianne Hensley of Erwin; brothers: Earl Bennett of Erwin, Gary Bennett of Jonesborough; sisters: Gladys Banner of Erwin, Elizabeth Shultz and husband Elmer of Indiana; grandchildren: Kelly Metcalf, Sarah Briest, David A. Briest, Abigal Burton, Wendy and Jeff Tipton, and Haley Hensley & fiancé Brandon Thompson; great-grandchildren: Jeremiah Collins, Julia Collins, Madison Metcalf, Gabriel King, Lakelynn Thompson and Shawn Hensley.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 31, at 7 p.m., in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Rev. EL Wheeler officiated. Musical selections were under the direction of Queenie Wheeler.
Interment was Sunday, April 1, at 9:30 a.m., at Evergreen Cemetery.
Valley Funeral Home was in charge.
