Wayne B. Shell, age 75, of Erwin, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. He was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Paul and Roxie Lloyd Shell.
He was supervisor for TDOT for many years. He served as a deacon since the late 70s. He attended Pathway Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading his Bible, hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son: Gary Shell; daughter-in-law: Lurene Shell; grandson: Eric Shell; and a sister: Bessie Stancil
Survivors include his wife of 49 years and 11 months, Elwonda Shell; two sons: David Shell and Gerald Shell; two granddaughters: Crystal Shelton and Ashley Shell; two great-grandsons: Micah Shelton and Mason Shelton; and four brothers: Frank Shell, Jerry Shell, Darrell Shell and Dennis Shell
A funeral service was held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Revs. Ronnie Peterson, Gordon Lewis and Terry Richardson officiated. Music was under the direction of Gordon Lewis.
Serving as pallbearers were Arney Foster, Richard Price, Roy Lacey, Tom Banks, Glenn Higgins and Stanley Ault. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff James, Jerry Williams, Norman Loveless, Dean Hollifield and the men of Pathway Freewill Baptist Church.
Committal service was at 1 p.m., Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Garland Cemetery.
