Viola Louise Garland Edwards, 90 years old, 610 Vinton Ave., Erwin, died Saturday, July 14,2012, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital, Johnson City.
Mrs. Edwards was born on March 29, 1922 in Jack’s Creek, N.C. She was the daughter of Sinclair and Dolly Garland. She was number 12 of 13 children (10 brothers and 2 sisters) and the last surviving sibling.
She held many jobs during her life, the most important being a mother to her four children and good friend to so many more. She cared for so many people and went out of her way to help those in need.
Mrs. Edwards was known for her incredible talent of crocheting, and shared her beautiful gift by giving friends many of her crocheted treasures. After her battle with breast cancer, she crocheted and gave away many hats for other women with cancer, who were suffering from the effects of radiation and chemotherapy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Oscar J. Edwards of Erwin.
Survivors include her children: George Bowman of Hampton, Va., Frank Bowman of Unicoi, David Edwards of Erwin, and Judy Edwards Birmingham of Memphis; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Mrs. Viola Edwards was laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Oscar, at the Veteran’s Administration Cemetery, Mountain Home, on Tuesday, July 17, which was their 61st wedding anniversary.
