Vernon Cornell Brittingham, age 79, of Rock Creek Road, Erwin, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, in Erwin.
Mr. Brittingham was born March 22, 1931, in West Chester, Pa., son of the late Harry Hurff and Minnie Eaby Brittingham. He was a graduate of Unionville High School, Class of 1950.
He was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a former employee of Lesko Metal in West Chester, Pa., before moving to Erwin in 1986. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Zula Lewis Brittingham; son, Vernon Brittingham Jr.; and sister, Corinne Eachus.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharon Blair of Malvern, Pa.; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Karlene Brittingham of West Chester, Pa.; sister, Lorena Harrington of Coatesville, Pa.; three nieces, Holly Brittingham, Beth Zeller and Donna Kneib.
Family and friends are asked to meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Evergreen Cemetery for graveside services with the Rev. Robert Layell officiating.
There will be no formal visitation.
