Truman Powers, age 74, of Powers Road, Unicoi, died Sunday morning, Jan. 16, 2011, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Powers was born Feb. 26, 1936, in Unicoi County, son of the late Walter and Nettie Derafield Powers. He attended Unicoi Free Will Baptist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elnora Powers; four brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include his son, Woody Powers and wife Shirley; two daughters, Margaret Vance and husband, Danny, and Joyce McLaughlin and husband, Tracy; two grandsons, Danny Vance Jr. and Mathew Vance; two brothers, Page Powers and wife, June, and James Powers and wife Luanne, all of Unicoi County; several nieces and nephews; special friend of 51 years, Edna Brummett; and good friends, Shirley Honeycutt and Bob Larimar.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Britt Cemetery with the Revs. Brent Jones, Thurman Sullivan and Todd McLaughlin officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday preceding the services at Unicoi Funeral Home and other times at the family home, 511 Powers Road, Unicoi.
