Shelby Dean Jones Leedy

Shelby LeedyShelby Dean Jones Leedy, age 79, Unicoi, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016, in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and daughter of the late Mack and Mabel McInturff Jones. Mrs. Leedy retired from the Unicoi County Health Department. She was a lifelong member of the Unicoi United Methodist Church where she served as church treasurer, treasurer of Unicoi United Methodist Church Women’s Society, pianist, organist and sang in the choir. Mrs. Leedy also served as treasurer of Swingle Cemetery. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Samuel Edmond Leedy on February 28, 2008 and one brother, John Jones.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories, two daughters: P. Jan Markum of Old Hickory, TN, Jill Tanner and husband, Richard of Lenoir, NC; one brother, Jack Jones and wife, Issy of Unicoi; three grandchildren: Sarah Markum, Seth Markum and Zack Tanner; sister-in-law, Kathy Jones of Flag Pond. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P. M. until the hour of service on Friday, August 12, 2016 at the Unicoi United Methodist Church. Dr. Mike Pinner and Reverend Todd Adams will officiate at the 7:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Teresa Parkey and Elsie Forbes. Pallbearers will be Scott Jones, Donald Simerly, Richard Leedy, Richard Tanner, Keith Jones, Zack Tanner, Sarah Markum and Seth Markum. Honorary pallbearers will be George Ritchie, Jerry Ramsey and Sam McGill. Committal service will be held at 11:00 A. M. on Saturday in the Roselawn Memory Garden. Family, friends, minister and pallbearers are asked to meet at the Unicoi Funeral Home by 10:30 A. M. to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may send memorials in memory of Shelby Leedy to Unicoi United Methodist Church, 702 Virginia Street, Unicoi, TN 37692 and/or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
