Sallie Kate Rice

Sallie Kate Rice, age 90, 103 Freeman Silvers Road, Erwin, went home to be with the Lord at 12:46 pm Monday, May 6, 2013.
II Timothy: Chapter 4, Verses 7&8: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
She was born March 11, 1923 in Flag Pond, Tennessee, a daughter of the late George and Mary Etta Blankenship Silvers. Mrs. Rice was a longtime faithful member of Shallow Ford Baptist Church where she loved keeping the nursery. She retired from Morrill Motors with over 20 years of service.
She was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all that knew her. She loved her family, going to church and working in her garden.

Other than her parents, Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her loving husband, Emerson Rice in 1968; her son, Gurnie Stephen Rice in 2009; a great grandson, Garrett Charles Edney in 2000; four sisters and five brothers.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol Sue Price and husband, Bill, Erwin; five grandchildren, Christol Edney and husband, Chuck, Erwin, Amanda Wilkins and husband, Jeff, Sweetwater, Brittany Rice, Knoxville, Alicia Price, Erwin, Becky Gunn and husband, Chris, Gray; seven great-grandchildren, Leah Edney, Blake Edney and Joben Wilkins, Amberleigh Wilkins, Robert Gunn, Renee Gunn and Scott Gunn; three brothers, Harrison Silvers and wife, Rellie, Flag Pond, Rollie Silvers and wife, Rebecca, Erwin, Offie Silvers and wife, Eileen, Flag Pond; one sister, Eunice McIntosh and husband, Garland, Johnson City; four sisters-in-law, Geneva Silvers, Erwin, Reva Silvers, Limestone, Joyce Rice, Flag Pond and Doris Barnett, Erwin.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service for Mrs. Rice will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013 from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Mike Tyson and Reverend Craig Shelton will officiate.
Special music will be provided by Bill Price and Alicia Price.
Active pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at her home, 103 Freeman Silvers Road, Erwin.

Committal service will be at held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, in Rice Creek Cemetery. Those attending are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:00 noon Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
