Ronnie Ray

Ronnie Ray, 72, went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2018 following a brave battle with cancer.

Ronnie was born in September of 1946.  Ronnie was a devoted husband, and proud father and grandfather.  He spent his career as an ironworker and in various other aspects of industrial construction.  Ronnie retired as Project Superintendent with Dreicor after more than 35 years of service. 

Ronnie was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting quail, pheasant, grouse, bear, and deer.  He loved to spend time on his tractor, training his dogs, and working on his farm.  Ronnie was a huge NASCAR fan and enjoyed attending races with family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Minta Ray; brothers, Jerry Ray and Otis Ray; sister, Ruby Runion and husband, Tucker; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Edwards and Gene Edwards.

Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Christine Edwards Ray; his sons, Jerry Ray and wife, Sherry of Unicoi, and Walt Ray of Erwin; grandson, Will Ray of Unicoi; brother-in law, Dallis Edwards and wife, Bernita of Benicia, CA; sister-in-law, Patsy Edwards of Erwin; and several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM with Reverend Craig Shelton and Reverend Harold Lewis officiating.

The graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Edwards Cemetery, Spivey Mountain Community.   Those who wish to attend the service should arrive at the cemetery by 10:45 AM. Saturday.  Pallbearers will be Paul Farnor, Buddy Shelton, Chad Harris, Robert Hall, Will Runion, and Bill Ayers.
