Ronal T. Briggs, age 68, 1150 Walnut Drive, Erwin died on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County. Mr. Briggs was a son of the late Talmage “Buck” and Nellie Rice Briggs. He attended Upper Rice Creek Baptist Church and was a member of the Erwin Moose Lodge. Mr. Briggs loved karaoke and family gatherings. He was a welder for several years in a shipyard located in Newport News, VA. He retired in 1998 from the Asheville Housing Authority, Asheville, NC where he worked in the maintenance department. Other than his parents Mr. Briggs was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Hunter Briggs in 1996 and two brothers: Earl and Gerald Briggs.
He is survived by one son, Mike Lance, Erwin; three daughters: Mary Denise Stewman, Black Mountain, NC; Melissa Ann Briggs, Erwin; Joy Feathers and husband, Randall, Jonesborough. Three brothers: Wayne Briggs, Jonesborough; Roger Briggs, Robert Briggs and wife, Mary Sue all of Flag Pond; One sister, Linda Silvers, Flag Pond; Grandchildren: Cody Metcalf, Haley Cigarroa and husband, David, Chase Metcalf, Skylar McIntosh, Laken Honeycutt, Gavin Honeycutt, Hunter Lance, Logan Lance, Jacob Lance and Kyle Stewman; Two step grandchildren: Noah Feathers and Kaleigh Feathers; Three great grandchildren: Kylenn Cigarroa, Aubree Cigarroa and soon to be born, baby Metcalf. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Briggs will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 8:00 P.M. from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jerry Shelton officiating. Pallbearers will be: Rodney Briggs, Todd Briggs, Dustin Briggs, Shane Briggs, Jimmy Hunter, Lloyd Dawson, David Peterson and Chad Silvers. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home and other times at the residence of his daughter, Joy Feathers, #8 Audrey Lane, Jonesborough. The committal service for Mr. Briggs will be held Thursday, September 4 at 3:00 pm from the Rice Creek Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home by 2:00 pm Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
