Robert H. “Bob” Tucker, age 81, 645 S. Elm Street, Erwin, went home to be with his Lord and S avior, Jesus on Monday, January 22, 2018. He lived most of his life in Erwin and was the son of the late Eugene and Mildred Watson Tucker. Master Sergeant Tucker retired from the United States Air Force after twenty-three years of service. He received the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and Air Force Medal award. Bob was employed by McDermott where he worked as a Barge Operator.
He was a faithful member of Riverview Baptist Church where he enjoyed taking care of the flowers for many years. Bob enjoyed fishing with his grandsons when they were younger, working with his daughter Penny in the many flower beds they had, visiting his sister, Betty; but, his greatest enjoyment came from the time he spent reading his Bible every day.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Tucker on April 10, 1998; two sisters: Margaret Tittle and JoAnn Arnold; a very, very special friend, Franklin Hughes.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, two daughters: Patty Kimberlin and husband, Fred, Penny Dunford whom he shared a special bond with and husband, Danny; step-son, Jeff Edwards; one sister whom he was very close to, Betty Strickland , all of Erwin; four grandsons: Jeremy Garland, Corry Garland, Jesse Kimberlin and Houston Tittle who followed in his papaw’s footsteps to serve his country; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel and other times at Bob’s residence. Reverend Roger Stockton and Reverend David Brown will officiate at the 8:00 P.M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Ronnie Webb, Clarence Bailey, Larry Pate, Gary Amos and Charlotte McCurry. Pallbearers will be Terry Wilson, Steve Lane, Tommy Franklin, Mike Strickland, Houston Tittle and Jeremy Garland. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday in the Evergreen Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by Shaw Air Force Base Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 A.M. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
